5 Elliptical trainer workouts to go from fat to fit

Be it a home gym or commercial gyms for cardio elliptical trainers have become the go-to equipment and for the right reasons. With these machines you can burn tons of calories and work out both your upper and lower body muscles within an hour but only if you pick out the right workouts.

So today we’ll cover 5 easy to do elliptical workouts to help you go from fat to fit.

Grill the core

Want to get rid of the nasty lower belly fat? Well, working out the core on an elliptical is easy. All you need to do is leave the handles.  Without the handles, all your core muscles get engaged in order to help you maintain balance. To further take your workout up a notch you can increase resistance and move your legs faster.

Workout the booty

If your elliptical trainer comes with an incline option you’re in for a real treat if you’re looking to get rid of the excess booty fat. Set your elliptical to a comfortable incline level and add to it as you get comfortable.  For a more advanced workout keep your heels rooted to the machine.

For the treadmill lover

Ever come back frustrated from the gym because you missed out on the treadmill? It’s the elliptical to the rescue and believe it or not this workout is equally effective as on a treadmill and in turn, can help you get your stride right.

All you need to do is let go of the handles and move your hands as you would while running. Move your legs as fast as you can but don’t keep the resistance too high.

Trademills

For the newbie

For those using the machine for the first time or looking for a cool and easy to do a workout on a rest day, this is ideal. When you move the legs forward it engages your quads and when it moves back it engages the hamstrings and butt.

When you move the hands forward it’s the chest muscles that come into play and when going backward it engages the upper back muscles and if you leave the handles you can torch the excess fat of your core as well. Continue the normal movement for about 45 minutes on a low or medium resistance level.

Interval workout

This is one of the most effective forms of workout and is also easy to do. All you need to do is up to the tempo of your workout for short intervals of about 40-45 seconds at a moderate resistance level and then go easy for about 1 minute.

Continue this for about 10 minutes and as your body develops increase the total time from 10 to 15 minutes and also lower the rest time while increasing the burst time to about 1 minute. Let go of the handles in order to engage more core muscles.

Why I Blog?

First of all, I apologize for all the link ups this week. I think I have done one every day this week. These are all great links up. This one I haven’t been doing as often as I should or wanted. I love this link because it gives you a chance to get to know me better as a person, and not just Jessa the “Sports Wife.”

Each week Lauren from The Albrechts Blog and Hayley from A Beautiful Exchange will announce the question for next week, and we link up. Easy Peasy!

This question was one that I couldn’t pass up.

Why do you blog? Tell us what got you started, what keeps you going, or where you want to go! This is your chance to tell us why you invest your time here day in and day out.

I started blogging in late 2009 when I regave my life to Christ. I was doing a bible study that I can’t remember the name but it’s a big all over the world study. It’s a year-long study that rotates every 7 years. That year it was all about John. I absolutely fell in love with the Bible study and wanted to get back on the right track. I started that blog as a way to write what I was thinking and making all the mistakes right. Also, I had a facebook who wrote on her facebook each day for a whole year (without repeating) something that she was thankful for. It struck a chord with me and made me want to do that too, but I chose a blog platform instead.

Then I started a 2nd blog because we were moving to OKC in 2010. (Don’t ask me why I started another but I did at the time. Gary had just accepted a position with the Oklahoma City Redhawks. (I know if you look at the archives it doesn’t go back that long. Keep reading.) I wanted to show our friends and family our life and what we were doing. We were also planning a wedding, but I failed to blog about that.

A while back ago (I don’t remember when) I deleted a bunch of my old posts. I didn’t like them for whatever reason. Why I didn’t put them in ‘revert in the draft’ is beyond me.

I continue to blog because we move around so much for his job. We are nomads basically. It’s a great way to get “girls time” because to be honest, it’s tough to go out and meet new friends in town. Also, its tough when you are constantly moving around so much. I love to blog because I have friends everywhere. There is also a blogger just around the corner. Plus almost every state has a blogging community to get involved in. Sad thing: I haven’t found one for West Virginia. I have found only a few blogger in WV. If you know anyone let me know. I would appreciate it so much.

I really don’t know where this blog is going to go but right now I am enjoying it.

Now to a blogger that has turned into a real-life friend is Rebekah from Living Lavender. She started her blog as a way to lead a calming and fulfilling life. Living Lavender is placed you can go to find amazing DIY crafts, anything glitter, and being real about anxiety.

Now show her some love.

Saying Goodbye to Phoenix

As we have been driving across the country, we have talked about almost everything. As we were in West Texas we got to talking about the things that we were going to miss in Phoenix. Phoenix has been “home” to us for a year and a half. Phoenix has some great places, and we feel that we left too soon to do everything that we wanted to do. But we couldn’t have passed up on this great opportunity in West Virginia.

Part of the reason I started this blog was to be a virtual scrapbook on our lives! Gary and I want to say bye to Phoenix. A city that will always have a place in our hearts.

We are going to miss:

I’m going to miss the weather. I LOVED the fact that I could wear flip flops all year around!
Beautiful scenery. Arizona has the most beautiful sunsets and sunrises. I swear AZ invents new colors for the coloring box. (The palm trees were nice too.)
Sports. It was so nice to have all the major sports around.
Friends. Also, bloggers friends who have turned real-life friends. Plus the friends we (Gary’s friends who have accepted me) knew coming into town.

IKEA.. I’m going to miss one is right down the street. I love that place!!

In AZ I experienced a career change. It was one of the best decisions. I loved the experience with the Coyotes, but think I found what I am supposed to do.

I’m sure that we are missing more things, but that’s really all we could think of. Today we are heading to Louisville, Kentucky to meet up with my parents. They have been so nice to take Heisman for a few weeks so we could get settled in.

Win Earwarmers & Meet New Bloggers Giveaway

I am so excited for this link up. I “met” Kassi when I first moved to Arizona. She was the first blogger that I talked to about driving across the country to a new place. I am so honored to be part of the 20 Wishes in 2014. This month is my store, Pearls N Stitches.

It’s FINALLY here!!! Time to link up and share your Twenty Wishes for 2014!!! You can read more on why we started this project back in 2013 here, but the gist is that life is too short. Too short to not really strive for those things you really wish to do or wish would happen. SO this year we’re all going to make a real effort to mark those wishes off our lists!
First, you’ll write and then link up your list of Twenty Wishes here. In doing so you’re entered in this month’s giveaway! (There will be a new one each month.) Then you’ll work on those wishes throughout this year coming back here the last Wednesday of every month to link up and share your progress. Here’s a button to add to your sidebar to remind you to come back and link monthly, and to serve as a little encouragement to work on marking off your wishes!!

This year we are doing things a little differently. Mostly in an effort to be more organized than last year… But again, the link up will be the last Wednesday of every month. Each month one or two of our ten hostesses will offer a little something as a giveaway for those that link with us. So, allow me to introduce your hostesses for the 2014 Twenty Wishes project…

Kassi & Kayli @ Truly Lovely
Sarah @ Saturday
Chrissy @ Whimsical Poppysmic
For this month’s giveaway, Jessa of Life of a Sports Wife is giving away Ear Warmers from her shop, Pearls N Stitches!! We aren’t requiring you to follow anyone, the only mandatory entry is linking up to this party with your list of 20 wishes. BUT the more you do the more entries you’ll receive and I can personally promise you if you do follow, like, etc and of these awesome ladies, you WILL NOT be disappointed!
So, link your wishes and enter the giveaway through the Rafflecopter form below! The giveaway will end at midnight on February 12th. Can’t wait to see what you lovelies wish for!!!

I absolutely LOVE this girl and wish that I had more time to hang out with her while she was living in Arizona. On her blog, she talks about her life traveling around the world, her cute little pups, and ways to be a better blogger. My questions this month to her was: What is the best advice you received about blogging?
Her advice was real, be relatable and refreshing.

New Year, New Theme: Better

Happy New Year Everyone! I hope that everyone had a great night and said Good Bye to 2013! Last year wasn’t a tough or trying year, but it also wasn’t a year that was amazing would want to repeat. Gary and I have some big goals for this upcoming year so we are ready for 2014!

Instead of making a bunch of resolutions on life I am going with a theme for this upcoming year. My one word is Better! I want to be a better person than I have been in all aspects of my life.

Personally: I want to pray like I have never prayed before. Find a church family. Live every day with passion and purpose.

Financially: Gary and I set a budget on Christmas Day. We listened to Craig Groeschel about being Weird, and Money Matters.

Relationships: Really developing better relationships with people. As bad as it sounds really evaluating the friendships we have and if we need or want to continue those friendships.

Overall I think this is my year on personal development. Last year I found out a lot about myself professionally and changed my profession. I want this to be the year that we grow in our marriage and in ourselves. I want to accomplish things we have both always wanted to accomplish.

What are your goals or resolutions?

We Saved Hundrends and Thousands

This weekend has been crazy but in a VERY good way!! I got off work on Wednesday night and went back to work today. Sundays are like my Mondays, which totally rocks! A little weird to get used to at first but I LOVE it.

Thursday: Thanksgiving!!!

We had a Friendsgiving with some friends over at our place. It was our first time cooking a turkey, and I think it went alright! The guys took home leftovers, and Gary had leftover pie. So I think a win-win overall. Minus the fact that I was a horrible blogger and forgot to take pictures. Heisman even had a friend to play with during the day, and he was exhausted. Which was great because I didn’t feel so bad when we left to go shopping!!

Yes, we went Black Thursday/Friday shopping!! We went to Wal-Mart for a tv, laptop, and maybe an ottoman. The laptop was the major item, but the tv was the easier item to get. The laptop turned into a catastrophe because we went wanting the $278 computer then the lady said if we wanted we could get the $178 computer. When we went back to get the $178 computer it was $400 because she told us wrong. Not only us but 20 other people. After a while, they decided to give us the $278 computer for $178. Then a girl wanted to trade us because she wanted that computer. Which was good because we wanted the computer that was original $178. So lllllloooooonnnnnnngggggg story short: WE got the computer we wanted.

Target. It was about 10 o’clock, and Gary wanted to get some DVDs for cheap. So we went and it was a COMPLETELY different environment than Wal-Mart. We were in and out, and went home!!

Friday: Here is where we saved THOUSANDS!! If you follow me on Instagram you know that we got a NEW (new to us) CAR, 2012 Ford Focus. We went to go look at different cars to start doing our research for a new car. After some talking, we decided that we should get the new car. Our old SUV was 12 years old (still had a year to pay) and we had to do a lot of repairs.

Saturday: Football. All day!! We watched Ohio State win, Auburn beat Alabama, Arizona State beat that school down south. Arizona State will play the PAC 12 Championship AT HOME!! This is huge!! Georgia beat Georgia Tech in 2 OTs.

Sunday: I worked ALL DAY!! This weekend has been exhausting, but I’m ready to get back in the swing my life. Taking such a break was GREAT, but need to get back to work!!

Fall Update

Earlier this month I posted this picture of things that I wanted to do this fall. I am considering fall from October 1-November 30th.

Go to a Pumpkin Patch: We went to Schnepf Farms a few weeks ago. It was a blast. If you live in Arizona I highly recommend you going. It has everything from pig races, roller coasters, pumpkin patch, hayrides, etc.

Hayrides: We did this at Schnepf Farms along with the Pumpkin Patch. It was so much fun.

Football Games: Arizona State games count, right? I went to ASU vs. Colorado. We were going to get Buffalo burgers but it was a 20-minute wait. ASU kicked butt at this game and we ended up leaving at halftime.

Thankful List: working on now & will be done at the end of November.

So far so good on the list!!

Who’s Your Favorite Football Team?

I found this from Nicole at Treasure Tromp on twitter a few weeks ago and thought it was the best thing. I am a huge Green Bay fan so I’m going through this flowchart to see who I should be cheering for. The flowchart and I don’t necessarily agree, but check it out and see if these questions line up with your favorite team.
Happy Friday and Happy Football Watching this weekend.
