On Sunday it was the Miss America pageant Now I don't get into as much as my dear friend, Tarole from One Haole Girl, but I always have a few favorites. I always want Miss Arkansas to do well because that's where I grew up. I also like Miss Iowa because our family lives there.
I was reading about the pageant and felt really bad for Miss New York. She just won Miss America! That's a huge deal! But instead of people being proud of someone to represent us at the Miss Universe people were ridiculing her because of her background.
Miss New York and Now Miss American is Nina Davuluri. She is Syracuse, NY and the reigning Miss Syracuse. She is the first Miss America of Indian descent, and hopes to be a doctor like her father.
Some people were calling her Miss 7-11 or Miss Al-Qaeda. Others were saying that Miss Kansas should have won because she represented American values. I think we all have different meaning of what America means to us and we need to embrace everyone.
I personally am glad that she won Miss America. I think we need to show all types of young girls that you can win Miss America.
I was reading other articles about all the contestants of Miss America. They are amazing people with so many great talents. Miss Kansas tore two ligaments in a practice and wore a knee brace throughout the event. Miss California got her Bachelors and Masters in FOUR years from Stanford.
The husband loved the intros of some of the women. His favorite was Louisiana. •"From the home of Duck Dynasty, I'm here to trade in my duck call for the Miss America crown. I'm Miss Louisiana Jaden Leach."

So what do you think of the new Miss America?
Agreed. Some people amaze me with their ignorance. First of all, get a map. Second of all, unless you are Native American, your ancestors aren't "American" either.
ReplyDeleteI feel terrible for the new Miss America. People are being so hateful, and it's taking away all the joy that she should be experiencing. I, like most, would have loved to see Miss Kansas win and was rooting for her, but all of the ladies deserved to be there and worked their entire lives for that moment. It's sad how mean spirited some people can be :(

This is such a bummer for her. I personally don't see a problem with it. My problem with her was her answer to the final question. She really didnn't answer the actual question they asked her, just babbled some politically correct statement about plastic surgery. I am so bugged by it!
ReplyDeleteThe new Miss America is a Michigan girl!! & an old roommate of one of my best friends. She's super great.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I LOVE your layout! It's amazing <3
I watched because I'm from Puerto Rico and pageants are HUGE practically part of our DNA...lol. That said I wanted Kansas to win because that is where I live now and like her I am an Army girl. By the way the one who wore the brace was Florida :) I told ya! HUGE in Puerto Rico! lol. My only issues was that the questions were "equal in difficulty" to answer but my thing is how is Miley Cyrus equal to the the conflict in Syria? And they gave them the same amount of time to answer. Ridiculous. That being said, I think Ms. NY was very poised and I'm happy she won. Now I do have to admit that the minute she was crown (as it happens with every pageant I watch) I immediately though of Sandra Bullock's fake crying in Ms. Congeniality. :)
